When I was growing up, my parents operated a family business that sold muffins, baked goods, and Caribbean food. I have so many happy memories of working at the Muffin Man Caribbean Cafe with my family and baking the muffins. Through these muffins, my dad spread joy throughout the community. I learned a great deal about entrepreneurship and running a small business, but most importantly, I learned how to make these delicious treats.
After my father closed the muffin business, he struggled to gather the secret ingredients and find the space and capacity needed to bake and sell his muffins. It was his dream to build the world’s biggest and most successful muffin business. Even years after closing the business, he carried on the legacy and was affectionately known as “The Muffin Man.”
After my dad passed away, I started baking the muffins again as part of my grieving process. Making and sharing the muffins has helped me feel connected to him and allowed me to carry on his legacy.
